LCBO Stores to Discontinue Paper Bag Distribution Starting September 5th as Part of Sustainability Drive

Jul 10, 2023Jul 10, 2023

Effective September 5th, LCBO stores will cease the distribution of paper bags to customers. This announcement comes on the heels of a pledge made in April as part of the provincial alcohol retailer’s commitment to bolster sustainability efforts.

The decision underscores LCBO’s dedication to reducing environmental impact. Instead of paper bags, customers will have access to alternatives such as complimentary 8-pack carrier boxes and the option to purchase reusable bags. In line with these changes, patrons are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags when visiting LCBO locations.

Currently, over 135 million paper bags are sold annually at LCBO stores. By phasing out paper bag distribution, the liquor board is taking significant strides towards a more eco-conscious and sustainable approach, aligning with the broader movement towards responsible consumption and environmental preservation.
